The Jamaica Labour Party’s, JLP, standard-bearer for South East St Andrew, Kevin Frith, is optimistic about winning a seat that is among the safest constituencies for the People’s National Party.
Speaking with Cliff Hughes at a JLP workers meeting in the constituency on Sunday, Frith says voters are ready for change.
South East St Andrew was first contested in 1967.
The JLP have won it in only one competitive election, 1980, when former People’s National Party, PNP, cabinet minister, Alan Isaacs beat John Junor.
The JLP, represented by Winston Spaulding took the seat by default when the PNP boycotted the 1983 general election.
Since then, Easton Douglas, Maxine Henry Wilson and Julian Robinson have turned the seat into a PNP stronghold.
But Frith, who’s a businessman, says he’s ready to make history.
