Fisherman Found Dead in Dangriga as Police Probe Second Weekend Killing

A second murder was reported Friday night, this one in Dangriga Town. Police were called to a home on Rear Pine Street where they discovered 27-year-old fisherman Oscar Williams Jr. dead inside the lower flat of a two-storey residence.  Here again is ASP Stacy Smith with an update on the preliminary findings.

Stacy Smith, Assistant Superintendent of Police: “What the investigators have been able to determine so far is that Williams was inside his residence along with a family member when a male person who wore a face mask entered that dwelling and fired several shots fatally injuring Williams. After the scene was processed by scenes of crime technicians the body of Williams was transported to the Southern Regional hospital for post mortem examination to be conducted.”

Williams was taken to the Southern Regional Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 11:31 p.m.  Today, his family is speaking out as they struggle to make sense of the tragedy. His aunt, Mrs. Elma, told Love News that the family is at a loss for any possible motive behind the killing.  She noted that her decision to speak publicly stems from growing frustration with the way the case is being handled by law enforcement.

Elma Gorosica, Aunt of Oscar Williams: “I am here speaking on my behalf and my family home here because the police came here without my consent, took my underage child which is actually on a week recovery from bronchitis and dengue. That’s why he wasn’t with me. He was at home with his elder sister and they took my child and they went to question him and have him locked up for two, three days in a cell like he was a criminal for this, for my nephew that got shot. And I don’t appreciate that because my son that they took don’t have not even a single record. He’s not affiliated with gangs. He doesn’t have any criminal record. He’s a student and the only reason he’s not at school right now because I’m not ashamed to say it. I have things hard. Life has been difficult for me ever since my dad passed away five years ago.”

Mrs. Elma also clarified circulating rumours regarding her own son, Dennis.  She firmly stated that he has no involvement whatsoever in his cousin’s murder.
