Government senator, Abka Fitz-Henley, is cautioning mayor of Kingston, Andrew Swaby, against attempting to strong-arm the media and unduly influence its reporting of what the Jamaica Labour Party dubs the scandal at the People’s National Party, PNP, controlled Kingston and St. Andrew Municipal Corporation, KSAMC.

His caution follows Mayor Swaby’s announcement that letters have been sent to nine media houses demanding payment for advertising fees owed to the corporation.

During this week’s meeting of the Kingston and St. Andrew Municipal Corporation, KSAMC, Mayor Andrew Swaby sent this strong warning to the media.

But Government Senator Abka Fitz-Henley is cautioning Mayor Swaby.

In a statement on Thursday, Senator Fitz-Henley says it is noteworthy that the mayor’s warning of strong action against the media came shortly after a major development in the deepening PNP/KSAMC corruption scandal was reported on by the media.

The latest development in the intensifying scandal concerns a revelation by former PNP insider Lawrence Rowe, who blew the lid via a formal statement to the Major Organised Crime and Anti-Corruption Agency, MOCA.

Rowe named dropped several PNP politicians and alleged the corrupt use of taxpayers’ money allocated to the KSAMC to fund the political activities of PNP candidates.

Senator Fitz-Henley says Mayor Swaby should be careful.
