Five Belizean Resorts Earn MICHELIN Key Recognition

Five Belizean resorts have been recognized in the MICHELIN Guide’s 2026 selection of MICHELIN Key hotels, with Ambergris Caye making the list for the first time through Matachica Resort and Spa. Gaia Riverlodge earned two Keys, the highest distinction among the Belize recipients. Copal Tree Lodge, a Muy’Ono Resort, Blancaneaux Lodge, Thatch Caye and Matachica Resort and Spa each received one Key.  The MICHELIN Guide is internationally known for recognizing outstanding restaurants and hotels. Its hotel awards use Keys, with one Key signifying “a very special stay,” two Keys indicating “an exceptional stay,” and three Keys representing its highest hotel distinction. The recognition assesses the overall experience offered to guests. Hotels are evaluated on their architecture and interior design, quality and consistency of service, character, value for money, and contribution to their surroundings. For the Belizean recipients, the award recognizes the combined quality of their hospitality, setting and guest experience. The distinction gives these establishments greater visibility among international travellers using the guide to choose accommodation. It also provides another opportunity to showcase Belize’s tourism offerings, from inland lodges to island retreats.
