Five persons, including two minors, have been remanded into custody after police reportedly discovered a prohibited firearm and ammunition during a house search in Belize City earlier this week. The group, three adults and two minors, appeared before a magistrate yesterday where they were jointly charged with keeping a prohibited firearm and related ammunition offenses. All five pleaded not guilty to the charges and were remanded into custody. The adults, 18-year-old Gevin Armstrong of Electric Avenue; 27-year-old Donie White; 20-year-old Antwan King were remanded to the Belize Central Prison. The two minors, aged fourteen and seventeen, were remanded to the Wagner’s Youth Facility. The matter has been adjourned until May 11. According to police reports, the arrests followed a targeted operation on Tuesday carried out by members of the Special Branch Firearm Team along with the Quick Response Team. Officers reportedly went to a residence on Electric Avenue to conduct a search for illegal firearms, ammunition, and drugs. During the search inside the home, police say an officer discovered a hole inside a mattress. Upon inspecting it, authorities reportedly found a black Glock nineteen Generation Five pistol fitted with an extended magazine containing thirty live nine-millimeter rounds, along with a laser attachment. Police say the firearm also contained what appeared to be an “incognito switch,” a device that can modify the weapon’s firing capability. Following the discovery, the five individuals who were present in the house at the time were informed of the offenses of possession of an unlicensed firearm and possession of unlicensed ammunition. Authorities say the group was cautioned but chose to remain silent. Scene of Crime personnel later processed the weapon and lifted fingerprints before the firearm and ammunition were sealed as exhibits. The group was then taken to the Raccoon Street Police Station where charges were formally laid.
