WITH TWO games remaining in the Jamaica Premier League (JPL) regular season, the matter of relegation is yet to be decided with five clubs still hanging precariously over the drop zone.
Molynes United, Dunbeholden, Harbour View, Chapelton Maroons, and Humble Lion are locked in a close fight for survival near the foot of the JPL standings.
With Vere Phoenix already confirmed to be demoted from the top-flight, the remaining five clubs will be looking to avoid filling the remaining relegation spot.
Molynes lead the pack with 35 points as they sit ninth in the league table.
Despite their lead, the Jermaine Thomas-led club perhaps faces the toughest run of fixtures as they are set to take on league leaders Mount Pleasant and defending champions Cavalier.
Having lost 6-2 and 4-0 to Mount Pleasant, and 3-0 and 5-1 to Cavalier already this season, they will face a mountain of a task to remain in the top flight.
Dunbeholden trail just behind Molynes in 10th with 34 points.
Their remaining fixtures will see them clash with Portmore United in a St Catherine derby before an away trip to Waterhouse.
Dunbeholden, whose last win came in February against Waterhouse, are currently stuck on an 11-game winless run, recording two draws and nine defeats.
They will be hoping they can turn their fortunes around with the little time they have left as any points dropped could spell disaster.
33 POINTS APIECE
Only four goals separate positions 10th through to 12th in the table as Harbour View, Chapelton Maroons and Humble Lion are all locked on 33 points apiece, with only goal difference differentiating the trio.
The Stars of the East will be hoping they can clip the lowly Vere Phoenix before they face a difficult outing against a high-scoring Arnett Gardens unit.
It will not be smooth sailing for Harbour View as they are yet to register a win against either team, drawing twice this seasons against Vere while being defeated twice by Arnett.
Chapelton Maroons will be looking to defy history as the last time two promoted teams survived their first season was during the 2015-2016 season.
Chapelton will face off against Tivoli Gardens and Vere Phoenix in their season’s decider, hopeful of salvaging results in both games to avoid a second relegation in three years.
Sitting just inside the relegation zone in 12th position are Humble Lion, led by coach Alex Thomas, who took over managerial duties in January.
Humble Lion, dependent on their 11-goal man Stephen Barnett, face Racing United and Mount Pleasant in their last two games of the season.
The Clarendon-based club are winless in their last three games with their most recent victory being a shock 3-1 triumph over Arnett Gardens.
They will be hopeful they can recover that form in their hopes of pulling off the great escape.
