Foreign Minister Hon. Francis Fonseca led a Belize delegation at the 4th European Union–Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (EU-CELAC) Summit, currently underway in Santa Marta, Colombia. The high-level meeting focuses on strengthening bi-regional cooperation, advancing sustainable development, climate resilience, trade, and inclusive growth, all key priorities for Belize and the wider Caribbean. On the margins of the Summit, Minister Fonseca engaged in several diplomatic meetings aimed at deepening Belize’s international partnerships. He held a cordial exchange with St. Kitts and Nevis Prime Minister Dr. Terrance Drew and Foreign Minister Denzil Douglas, underscoring the strong bonds of CARICOM unity and regional cooperation. Minister Fonseca also met with Nadia Calviño, President of the European Investment Bank (EIB), to discuss building on ongoing Belize–EIB collaboration, particularly following the Bank’s participation in the International Partners Conference 2025. Additionally, he conferred with Magnus Brunner, the European Commissioner for Internal Affairs and Migration, reaffirming Belize’s advocacy for greater passport mobility into the Schengen Area and deeper engagement with the EU on migration and development matters. While in Santa Marta, Minister Fonseca also greeted Colombian President Gustavo Petro, conveying Belize’s warm regards and reaffirming the country’s commitment to strengthening longstanding friendship and bilateral cooperation with Colombia. Belize’s active participation in the EU-CELAC Summit highlights its continued role in promoting regional solidarity, sustainable partnerships, and inclusive growth across Latin America, the Caribbean, and Europe.
