Foreign Minister Highlights Outcomes of Belize-Mexico-Guatemala Summit

Foreign Minister Francis Fonseca gave an overview today on last week’s tripartite meeting in Campeche, Mexico, involving the leaders of Mexico, Belize and Guatemala.  Minister Fonseca was a part of the delegation led by Prime Minister John Briceno.  He noted that there were two separate meetings.  The first involved the three leaders which involved the signing of the agreement for the Biospheric Park.  The second was on a bilateral level which centered around other several other issues.

Francis Fonseca, Minister of Foreign Affairs: “We discussed many different issues; energy, trade, investment, tourism, education, culture you know so it was a very…. And security very importantly security issues as well. So we thought it was a very very productive meeting. Very productive day in Mexico, in Campeche and we were able to I think come out of it with specific outcomes in terms of all of those areas and agreements we reechoed that will obviously have to be followed up on by technical teams but we’re very hopeful and optimistic about the outcomes of those meetings. You will appreciate that when the leaders meet it has to be followed up by technical meetings to work out the details of those commitments that are made in those meetings. So we can’t say anything until those details are worked out but yes the objective is to of course provide a compete briefing on what was agreed on but it has to be done by the technical teams.”

The meetings were held on Friday at the Hotel Mundo Maya Calakmul in Campeche, Mexico.
