Former Ambassador Granted Bail After Facing Multiple Sex Crime Charges

Former Ambassador Said Badi Guerra was granted bail this morning after being charged with four counts of sexual assault, one count of harm, and procuring defilement by threat.  Guerra appeared in the magistrate’s court in Benque Viejo del Carmen this morning where he was granted a ten-thousand-dollar bail with two sureties of the same amountReports to Love News indicate that a formal complaint was made last week against Guerra by a 16-year-old young man of San Ignacio Town, Cayo District.  We further understand that the incident occurred on Monday, July 14 in Benque Viejo at a time when the minor was reportedly under the influence of alcohol.  In an interview earlier today, Guerra professed to be innocent, and clarified that the matter was not rape, and that he would appreciate if the media would use the proper terms.  Guerra, who is now a schoolteacher, once served as Belize’s Ambassador to Cuba under the Barrow Administration.  The 50-year-old has also served in various capacities in the diplomatic arena, including the Chief of Protocol for the Government of Belize in 2017.  He is a Commissioner of the High Court and had served as a facilitator for the public awareness campaign for the ICJ Referendum in 2018.
