Former BEL Chairman Andrew Marshalleck Explains Exit After Full Term

Former Chairman of the Belize Electricity Limited (BEL) Board, Andrew Marshalleck, has publicly outlined the reasons behind his resignation, bringing clarity to his departure after serving a full term at the helm of the state-owned utility.  Marshalleck, who was appointed chairman in 2020, completed a five-year term overseeing BEL during a period marked by regulatory challenges, infrastructure upgrades, and ongoing discussions around energy costs, reliability, and corporate governance. According to Marshalleck, his resignation was requested.

The BEL Chairman’s mandate includes the provision of strategic leadership to the board, ensuring sound corporate governance, safeguarding the interests of consumers and shareholders, and working closely with management while maintaining the board’s independence from day-to-day operations.
