Former Compol Williams Welcomes Guilty Verdict in Ramnarace Triple Murder Case

Former Commissioner of Police Chester Williams has welcomed last week’s guilty verdict against Elmer Nah.  On May 29, a jury found Nah guilty of the triple murders of Jon, David and Vivian Ramnarace in Belmopan.  Speaking on the conviction, Williams reflected on the efforts of the investigators who worked on the case and said the verdict should provide some measure of closure to the grieving family.

Chester Williams, Former Commissioner of Police: “I must say the verdict came as no surprise to me. All along we had thought that Nah was the one who committed that heinous crime. I can say that I was the commissioner and indeed we did a thorough investigation. I guided the investigators. We made sure that even when we got the special prosecutor, when he needed certain things to be done as a part of the investigation I put together a team headed by Deputy Commissioner Jones and Gerald Jones who was deputy HNCIB at the time, to make sure that they do all the follow-up that the Special Prosecutor wanted us to do in respect of that particular case. And so I think it’s a good verdict for the country and especially for the family of the three deceased persons. So it’s just a matter of waiting now to see what the sentence of the court is going to be in respect of that matter.”

Elmer Nah is slated to be sentenced on June 18. Authorities have indicated that the case stands as one of the most significant criminal convictions secured in recent years
