Former Defence Minister Florencio Marin Jr. Explains Decision to Break His Silence

After stating that contracts in the Ministry of Defence were approved by the Contractor General of Belize following a full tendering process, former Defence Minister Florencio Marin Junior also explained why he chose this moment to offer a public explanation.  During Monday’s appearance on The Morning Show, Marin addressed his decision to speak after remaining largely silent about his leave of absence and the audit into his former ministry.

He also noted that since his leave of absence, he has been interviewed by the Office of the Auditor General. 

Marin requested ninety days’ leave in July after the audit was launched. In Monday’s interview, he maintained that the contracts under scrutiny had gone through the Tendering Committee, the Ministry of Finance and the Office of the Contractor General.  He also said he had previously requested annual audits of the ministry, but those had not been carried out./
