Former Hope Creek Chairman Elroy Wade Dies After Gas Explosion Injuries

Former Hope Creek Village Chairman Elroy Wade has died after suffering severe burn injuries in a gas-related incident in Silk Grass Village, Stann Creek District.  According to information provided, Wade sustained burns to approximately sixty percent of his upper body on Thursday when a malfunctioning butane gas system at the plant reportedly burst into flames while he was attempting to address the fault. He was rushed for emergency medical treatment to Guatemala City, where he later succumbed to his injuries at around 3:00 a.m.  Family members and community residents are mourning the loss of the longtime village leader, describing him as dedicated and service oriented.  Preliminary information suggests Wade entered the pump house in an effort to shut down the system when the blaze occurred. It is suggested that the configuration of the breaker box inside the pump house, near where the gas line passes, may have contributed to the dangerous conditions.  Thomas Emmanuel, who knew Wade professionally, spoke to Love News about what transpired on the site.

Authorities are expected to continue reviewing the circumstances surrounding the incident. Meanwhile, residents in Hope Creek and Silk Grass are remembering Wade for his years of public service and commitment to community development./
