A former librarian is turning the page on a new chapter of her life, this time as a published author. This morning at the Leo Bradley Library, Brenda Herrera launched her debut collection of poetry titled “Reflections and Meditations.” The event, which served as a bridge between the closing of Black History Month and the start of Women’s Month, was an emotional look at survival and the power of the written word. 10am at the Leo Bradley Library. A familiar face to the stacks, former librarian Brenda Herrera, returned to her old stomping grounds, not to shelve books, but to sign her own. Her new book, “Reflections and Meditations,” is a lean but powerful collection of fifteen poems designed to offer solace to those walking through dark valleys. Herrera says the verses were forged in the fire of her own personal struggles, including a battle with chronic illness and the trauma of domestic violence.
Herrera was joined by students from Pallotti High School, who listened intently as she shared her journey from victim to victor. She ended the morning by reciting two of her featured works: “The Power of Education” and “My Eyes.” For those looking to pick up a copy, “Reflections and Meditations” is now available at the Leo Bradley Library, The Angelus Press, Brodies, and Reimers Feed Mill. If you’d like to reach out to the author directly for a copy, you can contact her at 634-6113.
