Former Reggae Boy says FIFA Should Prioritise Player Health Amid Soaring US Heat

Former national goalkeeper Ryan Thompson believes football’s governing body FIFA should put the health of players at the fore-front as a massive heatwave sweeps across the USA.

The current heatwave is happening in the midst of the ongoing FIFA Club World Cup.

Thompson speaking with Nationwide Sports stated that football has always been a game played under severe circumstances.

Last week saw the summer’s first major heatwave descend on eastern North America, with dozens of people hospitalised for heat-related illnesses.

In New York on June 24 for instance, the temperature rocketed to 39.4 degrees celsius – a record for June.

The United States set to host matches in the global show piece next year, but Thompson says with the experience of hosting many global events, the United States should be experienced enough to combat any such occurrences next year.
