Favourites India made a smashing start to their campaign in the ICC T20 World Cup with an 8 wicket victory over Ireland by at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York, today.
Ireland were bowled out for 96 in 16 overs, Gareth Delany 26 made most runs,Hardik Pandya had figures of 3 for 27, while Arshdeep Singh and Jasprit Bumrah each bagged 2-wickets for India.
In reply, India raced to 97 for 2 inside 13 overs.
Captain Rohit Sharma retired hurt on 52, while Rishabh Pant made 36 not out.
Meanwhile, former Zimbabwean cricketer, Andy Flower, says the pitch in New York is not a good surface on which to play international matches.
The four drop-in pitches cultivated with native Tahoma 31 Bermuda grass were installed at the ground last month.
Flower feels there is something “inherently wrong” with the base of the surface.
