Four Jamaicans are amongst the nominees for the eighth CWI/WIPA Awards Gala, an event that honours the outstanding performances in West Indies cricket over the past year.
Former captain Rovman Powell and opener Brandon King are among the five nominees for men’s T20 player of the year, they join Nicholas Pooran, Akeal Hosein and Alzarri Joseph.
National women’s team captain Rashada Williams and Stafanie Taylor are the other Jamaicans up for an award.
Williams will battle Erin Deane, Shabika Gajnabi, Mandy Mangru and Plaffiana Millington for the women’s T20 Blaze Player of the Year.
While Taylor has been nominated for women’s ODI player of the year with West Indies captain Hayley Matthews, Chinelle Henry, Zaida James and Afy Fletcher.
Former captain Kraigg Brathwaite is among the nominees for Player of the Year , Kavem Hodge, Kraigg Brathwaite, Jayden Seales, Shamar Joseph and Alzarri Joseph are also nominated.
The Men’s ODI player of the year are, Sherfane Rutherford, Keacy Carty, Gudakesh Motie, Alzarri Joseph and Shai Hope.
West Indies women’s team captain captain Hayley Matthews have multiple nominations.
She’s in it for the ODI Player of the Year along with Stafanie Taylor, Chinelle Henry, Zaida James and Afy Fletcher.
Matthews is also up for the women’s T20 Player of the Year with Shemaine Campbelle, Chinelle Henry, Afy Fletcher and Karishma Ramharack.
There will also be awards for West Indies Championship Player of the Year, Regional T20 Player of the Year, CG United Super50 Cup Player of the Year, CG United Women’s Super50 Cup Player of the Year and CWI Women’s T20 Blaze Player of the Yea
The Awards Gala recognizes and celebrates excellence across international formats and domestic tournaments.
This year’s Gala will also serve as a tribute to one of the most defining moments in West Indies cricket history—the 50th anniversary of the 1975 ICC Cricket World Cup victory, under the legendary leadership of Sir Clive Lloyd.
The Awards Gala will be held on June 22, at the Wyndham Grand Barbados Sam Lord’s Castle.
