President of the Jamaica Paralympic Association, Christopher Samuda, says Allison France’s victory in the recent Australian general elections sends a signal message to the global citizenry that para athletes and persons with disabilities can rise to the greatest heights and triumph in any endeavour and be recognised as a superior choice for leadership.
France, who represented Australia in paracanoeing, winning two team gold medals and a silver at the Outrigger Canoe World Sprint Championships in 2016, defeated then Leader of the Opposition and Liberal Party Leader, Peter Dutton for the Queensland division of Dickson.
Samuda says her achievement is a visionary event in political history, a life-changing experience in civic life and a crowning moment for sport which is not only a unifier but an equaliser.
France knows too well that defeat builds character as this was her third attempt to be seated but then history teaches us that timing is everything, that history makers are created in time and legacies are timeless.
The Jamaica Paralympic Association commends Allison France for providing an inspiring lesson of overcoming to become and being an exemplar – abled with a difference.”
