When she takes to the track today in her first Diamond League race this year, Jamaican sprint icon Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce will be testing her race sharpness against a competitive field.

Fraser-Pryce is set to headline the Doha Diamond League as she is scheduled to compete in the women’s 100 metres.

It will be just her second individual race this season, following her season opener at the Velocity Fest 17 at the National Stadium last month.

The veteran sprinter said she is excited to take the track, and she is ready to test herself in a competitive environment.

“For me, the last two years I’ve raced sparingly, so I really want to get back in that race sharpness,” Fraser-Pryce said ahead of the meet.

“I really want to get back into some competitive races. I know where I am at with how training has been going,” she continued.

“I’m really looking forward to seeing just the execution and really just working on putting the race together. I think [today] is going to be special, and I am really excited about that. I’m excited to have that competitive drive.”

Fraser-Pryce will compete in a Jamaican-heavy field as Natasha Morrison, Tia Clayton, and Tina Clayton will also line up in the race.

Switzerland Mujinga Kambundji, New Zealand’s Zoe Hobbs, and Great Britain’s Amy Hunt are set to complete the line-up.

Olympic silver medallist Shanieka Ricketts will also take the sand pit in the women’s triple jump as she sets up a match against reigning Olympic champion Thea LaFond of Dominica.

Ricketts and LaFond will enter the contest will the same season’s best of 14.18 metres, with LaFond recording the mark in March, and Ricketts a month later.

Rasheed Broadbell will be the lone Jamaican in the men’s 110m hurdles event as he takes on a field that will include Jamaal Britt and Daniel Roberts, both from the United States.

Fedrick Dacres will open his Diamond League season as he is scheduled to compete in the men’s discus throw event.

Dacres, who currently holds a season’s best of 66.33 metres, will take on a stacked field that includes former Olympic and two-time world champion Daniel Stahl of Sweden and meet record holder Kristjan Ceh of Slovenia.

In the men’s high jump, the Jamaican duo of Romaine Beckford and Raymond Richards will take on an 11-man field that will also include Bahamian high jumper Donald Thomas.

The meet is set to start at 10 a.m. (Jamaica time) with the women’s 100m set for 11:36 a.m.
