At least two commentators believe the government’s achievements on crime and the economy are now resonating with voters across the country.
That’s their explanation for the sentiment among Jamaicans that the governing Jamaica Labour Party is best equipped to address the main problems facing the country.
Social commentator, Suelle Anglin, says the major reductions in crime have positively affected the image of the Holness-administration along with recent economic developments.
According to the Nationwide/Bluedot polls, powered by Total Tools, 51 per cent of Jamaicans say they believe the Jamaica Labour Party is the best party to solve the problems of crime, unemployment and cost of living.
That’s up 14 points over the last three months.
The People’s National Party, PNP, has similarly seen a single digit improvement in public confidence in their ability to tackle the country’s biggest problems. That’s a seven point improvement moving from 25 per cent to 32 per cent.
President of the Jamaica Employers’ Federation, Wayne Chen, says this is representative in the current administrations gains in law and order coupled with improvements in employment and cost of living.
Meanwhile, both commentators, believe the opposition PNP must provide a credible alternative to the current administration.
Chen says now is the time for the opposition to put forward their policies and ideas for the country.

And Ms. Anglin, says the country to date still does not have a clear understanding of the policy position of the PNP.
