Galen University is strengthening its commitment to higher education and student development with the establishment of the Galen University Scholarship and Development Foundation. The Foundation was officially installed on Saturday with a clear focus on awarding scholarships and financial aid to deserving students, while also advancing the university’s academic, scientific, and institutional development initiatives. Heading the inaugural Board is President of Galen University, Rene Villanueva Sr., who will serve as Chair. The board brings together a diverse mix of leadership from within the university and the wider community, including representation from the private sector, alumni, and student body. Also serving on the board are Godwin Hulse, representing the Board of Directors, and Hugh O’Brien, representing the Board of Trustees. Private sector representatives include Kay Menzies, Deborah Sewell, and Francis “Cisco” Woods. Student and alumni voices are also reflected through Christian Loza, President of the Alumni Association, and Keith Jones, President of the Student Government Association. Supporting the work of the Foundation in ex officio, non-voting roles are key university officials, including Deanna Peyrefitte, Director of Marketing, Admissions and Public Relations; Sylvia Batty, Director of Student Affairs; Luis Chavez, Chief Financial Officer; and Dr. Cynthia Aird, Provost.
