Reggae artiste Glen Washington is planning to go all out to ensure that his 70th birthday is one to remember as he steps into the era of being a ‘singing septuagenarian’ in style.

“It is the big 7-0 ... normally I have a little birthday event, but this is going to be a bash,” Glen Washington said of the event to be held at Long Island’s Prestige Palace next weekend.

“Artistes such as Lady G, Sammy Dread, Brigadier Jerry, Michael Palmer, Marcia Aiken, Clement Gordon will be flying in especially for the event, and it’ s going to be a nice one. People from nuff places and various different deejays will be playing. Mi plan fi fling down da night de, hits after hits,” the singer said.

Over the weekend, Glen Washington performed at a club in the city of Marietta, Georgia, where he wowed a fair-sized audience with a mix of his popular reggae hits like Strangers in the Night, Consider Me, Kindness for Sweetness, and songs from his latest album, Just Giving Thanks.

“The Kenyans football team gave me an honorary plaque during my performance. It was a great event,” Glen Washington said.

Washington’s journey in music began in the early 1970s as the lead singer of Names and Faces and later with 35 Incorporated, where he learned to play drums under Joseph Hill. His versatility shone through as he took on the role of singing drummer after Hill’s departure. Notably, he also served as the main drummer for Stevie Wonder, showcasing his exceptional talent

His career took a significant turn with the release of Rockers Not Crackers, in 1978, but it was his hit Kindness for Weakness in 1998 that solidified his place in the reggae world. He further established himself as a force to reckon with, with songs like Strangers in the Night and Consider Me, which showcase his smooth, raspy bass vocals.

Over the years, he has released more than 40 singles and 11 albums, two of which have been nominated for Grammy awards.
