Glenmuir, Vere in Clarendon Elite Football final

4 weeks ago 6

Home team Glenmuir High and Vere Technical will contest the Clarendon Elite Football competition’s final today, following contrasting semi-final results at Glenmuir High School yesterday.

Just as they did on Friday’s opening day of the competition – where they got past Tivoli Gardens High School on penalty kicks – the team from Hayes, Vere Technical, had a similar result against Denbigh High.

After both teams ended goalless at full-time, Vere once again held their nerves, edging their opponents 4-3 on penalties.

Glenmuir, fresh off a 5-0 thumping of Belair High in Friday’s quarter-finals and favourites to go all the way, got by Munro College 4-1 in their semi-final clash.

Despite some good spells from Munro, it was the more experienced Glenmuir side – with several returning players from last year’s team – that took the lead via a first-half penalty by Orane Watson in the 15th minute, as the half ended 1-0.

The Andre Peart-coached Glenmuir team gave their home fans much to cheer about in the second half, dominating their opponents with some exciting plays.

Watson scored his second goal in the 23rd minute, with team-mate Orane Miller (57th, 69th minute) completing the scoring for Glenmuir.

Demarco Holness got the consolation goal for Munro in the 64th minute.

The final will be played, at 4 p.m. Preceding the final at 2 p.m. will be the third-place play-off between Munro and Denbigh.
