Opposition Leader Mark Golding is describing as a symbol of corruption in government the appointment of Dennis Chung as chief technical director of the Financial Investigations Division, FID.

Golding was speaking earlier on Monday to People’s National Party, PNP, supporters who descended on National Heroes Circle in Kingston to protest Chung’s appointment.

The opposition leader and PNP president was flanked by several high-ranking members of the party including general secretary, Dr. Dayton Campbell and opposition spokesman on national security, Peter Bunting.

Daina Davy reports.

The demonstration dubbed ‘Rescue Jamaica Protest’ kicked off sometime after 8 am on the eastern end of Heroes Circle.

Several members of the Jamaica Constabulary Force stood guard on location.

PNP supporters were armed with placards. Some of them read ‘Public office should serve the people, not personal cover up’, ‘#CorruptGovernment’, ‘Dennis di Apprentice’ and ‘Stand against Corruption’.

Some of the participants chanted, “Rescue Jamaica!”

Opposition Leader Mark Golding took to the microphone, telling supporters that the appointment of Chung represented an erosion of good governance.

Hitting back at the prime minister’s description of the PNP as ‘bad mind’, Golding says his party is fighting corruption with a good, clear mind.
