Opposition Leader, Mark Golding, says the government is attempting hide its failure to uplift the Jamaican people behind macro-economic statistics.
He made the claim as he delivered his contribution to the 2025/2026 Budget Debate in the House of Representatives on Tuesday.
In some of his pointed remarks in the debate, Mr. Golding accused the Holness administration of selling off Jamaica’s future to keep itself in power.
Mahiri Stewart has that story.
The Opposition Leader says the reality of the average Jamaican cannot be covered up by statistics such as record low unemployment.
Mr. Golding says many Jamaicans are suffering from food insecurity, underemployment and a poor standard of living.
He says this has been caused by nine years of low growth despite the strong foundations left by the previous PNP Government.
The Opposition Leader says instead, the government is now relying on selling off the assets of the country in order to support its budget.
He cited as an example the securitisation of 12 years of revenues from the Norman Manley International Airport to fund the current budget.
The PNP President says based on the information from the upcoming budget, there are more deals like this to come.
The Opposition Leader says, it will be left up to the PNP to pick up the pieces.
