Golding: I Had No Role in FINSAC

Leader of the Opposition Mark Golding has declared that he had no role in Jamaica’s financial sector meltdown of the 1990s.

The financial sector crash is often referred to as the FINSAC era. It takes its name from the Financial Sector Adjustment Company, the vehicle intended to right the financial meltdown.

Prime Minister Dr Andrew Holness in his budget presentation, laid the blame squarely at the feet of the People’s National Party, accusing the opposition of setting back the development of Jamaica.

Prime Minister Holness also hinted that members of the opposition benefitted from favourable deals linked to FINSAC through investment bank Dehring, Bunting and Golding, DB&G.

But, Mr Golding sought to set the record straight during a press conference at the Office of the Opposition Leader on Wednesday.

He described the lack of a report on FINSAC as a government scandal.

Meanwhile, PNP general secretary Dayton Campbell, seized the opportunity following Mr Golding’s rebuttal, to ask why the media hasn’t challenged Dr Holness on the lack of certification of his statutory declarations.
