Opposition leader, Mark Golding, says the next People’s National Party, PNP, government will put in place a strategic 10-year national road maintenance and rehabilitation plan.
Prime Minister Dr. Andrew Holness has argued that the deplorable state of numerous roads in the country is due largely to 30 years of neglect under the previous PNP administrations.
He has also identified climate change as contributor to the deterioration in the quality of road surfaces.
The Holness administration is implementing the Shared Prosperity through Accelerated Improvement to Our Road Network, SPARK, and Relief Emergency Assistance and Community Help, REACH, works and road repair programmes, with a combined spend of almost $50 billion.
But Golding says the Jamaica Labour Party administration continues to fail where road maintenance is concerned.
Meanwhile, Mark Golding says the next PNP government will move towards a system of independent oversight for road projects.
