THE SCHEDULE in Europe for Jamaican athletes continued with the latest assignment coming at yesterday’s World Continental Tour Bronze meet, the Mityng Ambassadorow Bialostockiego Podlaskiego Sport, in Bialystok, Poland.
The best performance by a Jamaican at the meet came from Kadrian Goldson, who captured the men’s 100 metres.
Very busy on the European circuit, Goldson sped to victory in 10.17 seconds (0.1 mps), with Sandrey Davison finishing second in 10.23, and Jayden Slade of the United States third in 10.25. The other Jamaicans in the final, Julian Forte and Sachin Dennis, both finished sixth and seventh in 10.30 and 10.32, respectively.
Earlier, in the preliminary round, Goldson clocked 10.22 to win his heat and qualify fastest for the final, ahead of Forte, who was second in 10.32. Dennis was third in his heat in 10.34, ahead of Davison, fourth in 10.37, all booking spots in the final.
Kemba Nelson was second and Christania Williams, third, in the women’s 100. Nelson clocked 11.30, while Williams crossed the line in 11.32, the two finishing behind Ewa Swoboda of Poland, 11.22.
Earlier, Lafranz Campbell finished third in the men’s 110-metre hurdles, clocking 13.57. John Adedola of South Africa won in 13.39, ahead of Jokub Szymknski of Poland, second in 13.44.
Former national senior 400m champion Demish Gaye could only manage fifth in the men’s 300 metres, clocking 32.84.
Today, two Jamaicans will be in action at the Folksam Grand Prix in Sollentuna, Sweden. Defending world 400m champion Antonio Watson will compete in the one-lap event while Odaine McPherson, following a false start in his last meet, will be hoping to get back on track and continue his winning form in the men’s 100.
