GOOD START FOR YOUNG REGGAE BOYZ

JAMAICA OPENED their Concacaf Boys’ U15 Championship campaign in style, getting the better of Belize 2-0 yesterday in Group D of League B at the Guillermo Prospero Trinidad Stadium in Aruba.

Goals from Kevaughn Halloway (first minute) and Carlondo Morris (37th) led the way for the young Reggae Boyz.

It took just 30 seconds for the young Boyz to open the scoring, catching Belize unaware with a routine straight from kick-off.

After being played through down the right flank, Holloway first saw his shot parried before the rebound allowed him to score into an empty net.

Jamaica continued to create the early pressure, but could not find a second goal in the first half with Belize beginning to grow into the game.

Immediate impact

The start of the second half progressed much like the first, with Jamaica scoring in the opening minutes.

This time, it was half-time substitute Morris who enjoyed immediate impact.

Running into the box, Morris’ one-time finish found the back of the net off a delivery from the boot of Samuel Taylor.

In the group’s other game, Curacao defeated Aruba 1-0 to open their campaign in winning fashion.

By virtue of the result, Jamaica moves atop Group D. While they and Curacao have three points, Jamaica hold a one-goal advantage in the goal-difference column.

Aruba sit third, with Belize at the bottom of the group, both without a point.

Action will continue today, when Jamaica takes on hosts Aruba in their second match of the group.

The match is set to kick off at 3 p.m. at the Guillermo Prospero Trinidad Stadium.

It will be the second game of a double-header, with Curacao facing Belize at 1 p.m.

The top two teams at the end of the group stage will advance to the League B semi-finals.
