THERE WAS some success for Jamaicans on tracks across Europe and on the island this weekend.

Ackeem Blake, for one, following his fourth-place finish in the men’s 100m at the London Diamond League meet, won at the ISTAF Olympiastadion in Berlin, Germany — a World Continental Tour Silver meet.

Blake had a convincing win, clocking 10.05 seconds. Owen Ansah of Germany was second in 10.18, with Nigeria’s Ududi Chudu Onwuzotie finishing third in 10.22.

Sprint hurdler Hansle Parchment was second in the men’s 110m hurdles with a time of 13.26. Tatsuki Abe of Japan took the win in 13.23, while Oumor Doudai Abakar of Qatar finished third in 13.37. Jamaica’s Lafranz Campbell ended eighth in 13.59.

National multiple-time women’s shot put champion Danniel Thomas-Dodd was third in her event with a heave of 18.82 metres. Fanny Roos of Sweden won with a mark of 19.04, and Germany’s Yemisi Ogunlaye claimed second with 18.88.

Former national senior representative Christania Williams was sixth in the women’s 100m, clocking 11.39 seconds. The USA’s Maia McCoy took top honours in 11.01.

AshantiI Moore and Odaine McPherson continued their good form in Europe after scoring wins at the Folkgvcvam Grand Prix in Gothenburg, Sweden, a World Continental Tour Bronze meet.

Fresh off her win a few days earlier in the women’s 200m in Austria — where she booked her individual spot for the Tokyo World Championships after clocking 22.40 — Moore returned for another big win on Sunday, clocking 22.42. The Swedish pair of Nora Lindahl (22.90) and Julia Henriksson (22.93) finished second and third, respectively.

Thompson’s hot winning streak continued with his third 100m victory in seven days. He clocked 10.17 for the top spot in the men’s event as Simon Hansen of Denmark was second in 10.28, and Julian Forte — competing in his first race since his injury at the World Relays — finished third in 10.34.

Fourth-place finisher in the women’s 100m at the Jamaica Senior Championships, Jodean Williams, scored victory on Saturday in the event at the JAAA World Athletics Preparation Meet at Stadium East.

Williams was too good for her rivals, winning comfortably in 11.1. Roneisha McGregor of UWI, Mona, was second in 11.41, with Tri Tania Lowe of G.C. Foster College third in 11.54.

Former Hydel High skipper Alliah Baker picked up a win in the women’s 200m. Representing Elite Performance Track Club, Baker stopped the clock at 24.00 seconds, with Oneika Brissette, competing unattached, second in 24.28.

Shakar Williams of Titans Track Club captured the men’s 100m in 10.23. His teammate, Andre Bent, was second in 10.29, and Odaine Crooks of New Era Track Club finished third in 10.36.

Crooks returned to take the men’s 200m in 20.75, finishing ahead of Demar Francis, who clocked 20.99.

Other winners on the day included Jevaughn Pinnock of New Era Track Club in the men’s 400m with 47.80, and Aubrey Allen, who won the men’s long jump with a leap of 7.41 metres.
