The discourse and consultative process continue into the standardizing of salary scales for public officers. For years now, the Public Service Union (PSU) has been calling for a review of the salary scales that would reflect the current cost of living and that would reflect fairness. According to Minister Henry Usher, it is one of several major projects that he has undertaken since having responsibility for the public service portfolio.

Henry Charles Usher, Minister of Public Service: “The big one is of course the modernization of the civil service. That is something that’s very time sensitive. It has to be completed in 2026 and it’s something that a new minister coming in would, you know, there would be a period of a learning curve. And really at this point the 2026 timeline is something that we have to try to stick to. So that is number one, the modernization of the civil service. And that’s looking at all of the pay scales, looking at the compensation throughout the civil service. We have an IDB project, we’re partnering with the IDB to look at that, bringing in an international consultant to help us to redo the pay scales, of course, looking at better compensation for public officers. I think that’s important. Looking at the allowances, looking at different things that make up the compensation package for public officers.”
