Consumers across Belize will see a small reduction in the cost of cooking gas, as the Government has implemented a two-cent decrease per gallon in Liquefied Petroleum Gas prices effective today. According to the Supplies Control Unit within the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Security and New Growth Industries, the new controlled prices reflect sales by wholesale and retail volume in both urban and rural areas. The import wholesale cost is now set at four dollars and five cents per gallon nationwide. In urban municipalities including Belize City, Belmopan, San Ignacio, Dangriga and Punta Gorda, LPG will retail at one dollar and twenty-nine cents per pound, or five dollars and sixty-five cents per gallon. Meanwhile, residents in rural communities will pay one dollar and thirty-two cents per pound, or five dollars and seventy-five cents per gallon. The ministry explains that the price reduction results primarily from a decrease in the acquisition cost for the latest shipment and applies to the standard propane-butane mixture used in Belize. The revised LPG prices are now in effect countrywide.
