Government Breaks Ground on $6 Million Expansion at Orange Walk Technical High School

Ground was broken yesterday for a major infrastructure upgrade at Orange Walk Technical High School, marking another significant investment by the Government of Belize in strengthening the nation’s education system.  Through the Ministry of Education, Culture, Science and Technology, and in partnership with the Caribbean Development Bank, the Government is funding a $6 million project that will see the construction of two new classroom buildings to replace an aging structure scheduled for demolition. The upgrade is aimed at better accommodating the school’s growing student population while providing modern, purpose-built learning spaces.  The new facilities will include eight classrooms, upgraded bathroom amenities, and a dedicated Home Economics and Science block. This block will be outfitted with a fully equipped teaching kitchen with five workstations, a sewing room, two computer laboratories, and separate physics, biology, and chemistry labs, and expanding opportunities for hands-on instruction and technical training.  The project is expected to be completed within 14 months. Education officials say the development reflects the Government’s continued commitment to expanding access to quality education by improving infrastructure that supports innovation, science, and vocational skills training.  The expansion at Orange Walk Technical High School forms part of the administration’s broader national strategy to modernize school facilities across Belize, ensuring students are better prepared for higher education and the evolving workforce.
