The government remains committed to transforming the water delivery service. This was underscored by Clyde Elder, Minister in the Ministry of Public Utilities, as he delivered the feature address at WASA’s 60th anniversary celebrations at the Authority’s complex in Lowlands, Tobago, on Wednesday.
He said, “Our commitment, therefore, is not to implement temporary or patchwork solutions, but to transform water service delivery by:
Upgrading ageing infrastructure and introducing modern technology
Ensuring greater efficiency and accountability in the management of resources
Expanding access to safe and reliable water to communities across the country.”
Elder added that the government’s goal is to create a water sector that is resilient and sustainable, capable of meeting the growing needs of the population.
He also praised WASA workers for their service, saying their dedication has been instrumental in maintaining operations over the decades.
“WASA is more than an institution; it is a lifeline for our communities. As we celebrate 60 years, let us commit to building a future where every citizen enjoys reliable access to clean water,” Elder said.
As part of the celebrations, WASA presented hampers to ten of its longstanding customers who have consistently made their payments on time over the past 60 years.
