Government Vehicle Assigned to Minister Henry Charles Usher Overturns After Tyre Blowout

Government has issued a public statement regarding a single-vehicle accident on October 1 involving a pickup assigned to Public Service Minister Henry Charles Usher.  According to the Ministry of the Public Service, Disaster Risk Management and Enterprise, Usher and his driver, Harrison Blades, had returned to Belize City following an official meeting in San Ignacio, Cayo District.  Blades had dropped the minister at his residence and was heading home when, around eleven that night, one of the tyres reportedly blew out near the Mile Two roundabout on the Philip Goldson Highway. The Ford F-150 overturned and sustained extensive damage. Blades escaped without injuries.  Police were called and proceeded with its investigation. The ministry says the incident was also reported to the Assets and Utilities Management Unit, in accordance with government procedures.  In its statement, the ministry reminded drivers of government vehicles to exercise caution during heavy rain and reiterated its commitment to accountability and the responsible management of public resources.
