THE EIGHT fastest girls and eight fastest boys from the ongoing ISSA/GraceKennedy Boys and Girls’ Athletics Championships (Champs) across all age groups in the 100, 200, and 400 metres are invited to compete in exhibition races at those distances during Grand Slam Track’s inaugural Slam in Kingston from April 4-6.
The invited Champs athletes will compete on Saturday, April 5, in advance of the professional races at the National Stadium. They will experience the same race protocols, equipment, and event presentation show as Grand Slam Track competitors. ISSA will serve as the race promoters, finalising the list of invites to create the fastest fields based on Champs performances.
Track fans who attend the Kingston Slam will now not only get to see the fastest professional track competitors in the world, they will also see the fastest Jamaican high school athletes fresh off their successes at Champs.
Champs, recognised worldwide as an incredible spectacle of excitement, energy, and high-calibre competition, began yesterday, and runs through to Saturday, March 29.
Seventeen Jamaicans are set to represent the Johnson’s inaugural Grand Slam Track team on the newly renovated track at the National Stadium, with Oblique Seville, Hansle Parchment, Alana Reid, Ackera Nugent, Kemba Nelson, Stacy-Ann Williams, Rushell Clayton, Nickisha Pryce, Shiann Salmon, Andrenette Knight, Danielle Williams, Natoya Goule-Toppin, Roshawn Clarke, Malik James-King, Ackeem Blake, Deandre Watkins, and Orlando Bennett all set to compete.
