Olympique Marseille striker Mason Greenwood has declined an invitation to represent Jamaica despite obtaining the relevant document.

The 23 year old former Manchester United star was invited by national coach Steve McClaren for the opening two games in the Concacaf final round World Cup qualifiers away to Bermuda on September 5 and four day later against Trinidad and Tobago in Kingston.

The games would’ve been Greenwood’s first for the country following a long and exhaustive period of trying to obtain his Jamaican Passport which he now has.

McClaren admits that the federation is disappointed by Greenwood’s decision, but they’re hoping to convince him to join for the October window.

Injury has robbed Jamaica of several key players ahead of the start of their crucial final round Concacaf World Cup Qualifiers.

Coach Steve McLaren outlined the gravity of the situation at a presser this morning at the JFF headquarters in New Kingston where the squad was announced.

Philadelphia Union goalkeeper Andre Blake, AS Roma on loan winger Leon Bailey and Coventry City’s Joel Latibeaudiere are some of the key names missing through injury.
