Guatemala Appoints New Ambassador to Belize


The Government of Guatemala has officially appointed Erwin Archila Falla as its new Ambassador to Belize, marking a renewed phase of diplomatic engagement between the two neighboring countries.   As part of the formal process, Ambassador Archila Falla today presented copies of his letters of credence to Francis Fonseca, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade. The presentation formally signaled the start of the Ambassador’s diplomatic mission in the country.  During their meeting, Minister Fonseca and Ambassador Archila Falla discussed opportunities to strengthen the bilateral agenda between Belize and Guatemala, emphasizing continued dialogue and cooperation in areas of mutual interest. The two officials also addressed the peaceful resolution of the Belize–Guatemala territorial dispute, which is currently before the International Court of Justice.  The Government of Belize reaffirmed its commitment to resolving the matter through international law and diplomacy, underscoring its dedication to peace, stability, and good neighborly relations. According to a release from the ministry, Minister Fonseca conveyed his best wishes to Ambassador Archila Falla for a successful tenure, expressing optimism that his appointment will contribute to strengthened relations between the two countries.
