Guatemalan National Charged With Burglary of San Pedro Business

San Pedro Police have arrested, charged, and arraigned a 31-year-old man for a recent burglary. Santiago Zacarias, a Guatemala resident, was taken to Belize City due to a lack of a magistrate in San Pedro. He appeared before Magistrate Ludlow Black to face a single charge of burglary. Authorities allege that on Sunday, Zacarias entered Casita Helada on Crazy House Avenue as a trespasser. He is accused of stealing two Ninja blenders, a JBL speaker, and a tops jar, with a total value of $1,540. The items are the property of the 55-year-old, Elis Cordovo. Police reports indicate that Cordovo discovered the break-in on Monday, when she returned to her business and noticed a broken window. Zacarias pleaded not guilty to the charge. He was granted bail in the amount of $2,500 plus two sureties of $1,250 each. He is scheduled to reappear in the San Pedro Magistrate’s Court on October 10.
