Police seized a firearm, two rounds of .45-calibre ammunition and approximately 500 grammes of cannabis during an intelligence-led anti-crime exercise in Valencia on Monday night.
The operation, conducted by officers attached to the Deputy Commissioner of Police Operations Team in the Eastern Division, took place between 7 pm and 11.30 pm on August 3.
According to the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS), officers acted on intelligence that illegal firearms had been concealed inside vacant fruit stalls along the Eastern Main Road, Valencia.
Around 10.15 pm, officers searched a shed near Pilot Farm Road, where they found a white Styrofoam crate containing a firearm, two rounds of .45-calibre ammunition and a brown rectangular package containing approximately 500 grammes of cannabis.
The items were seized and taken to the Arima Police Station, where they were photographed and processed.
No arrests were reported up to the time of the release.
Police said the exercise formed part of ongoing intelligence-driven operations targeting illegal firearms and narcotics in the Eastern Division.
The operation was sanctioned by Deputy Commissioner of Police Suzette Martin and directed by Assistant Commissioner of Police Hazel Ramnarine. Corporal Taylor, Police Constable Dyette, Police Constable Edwards, Police Constable White and Police Constable Jennings conducted the field exercise.
Investigations are continuing as police work to determine who concealed the firearm, ammunition and cannabis at the location.
The TTPS has repeatedly urged members of the public to provide information on illegal firearms and criminal activity, noting that intelligence from citizens plays an important role in anti-crime operations.
