Police have seized an illegal firearm and ammunition and have arrested two suspects in anti-crime operations across Freeport, Chaguanas, and Longdenville on Monday.
One of the suspects was wanted for robbery with violence.
A statement by the Police Service said that officers attached to the Freeport Criminal Investigations Department (CID) went to a bushy area off Carlsen Field where they found a man with a black mini Uzi submachine gun.
They said the man immediately dropped the weapon and fled.
Police say the gun was fitted with a magazine containing two rounds of 9mm ammunition.
Police added that later in the day, officers conducted a targeted operation at the Chaguanas Market, where they arrested a 21-year-old known offender.
This man was already on bail with conditions, including wearing an electronic monitoring device, for trafficking marijuana.
Police say that at the time of his arrest, he was also found in possession of 34.8 grams of marijuana.
Further checks revealed that the suspect was wanted in connection with several traffic offences, for escaping lawful custody from municipal police, and for breaching High Court bail conditions.
A 16-year-old suspect in connection with a report of robbery with violence that had occurred earlier in day was also arrested late Monday.
