Jamaica Labour Party supporters took cover Sunday evening during a meeting in Central Kingston after gunshots rang out in the vicinity of the gathering.

The explosions were heard while Member of Parliament Donovan Williams was at the lectern.

While the gunshots were not audible during the live stream of the meeting, sources on the ground reported hearing four or five explosions.

Williams was forced to pause his speech as he took cover and moved away from the lectern.

Police who were on location reportedly moved in the direction of where the explosions were heard, while another team was dispatched.

When he returned to the lectern, Williams urged supporters not to be distracted.
