
San Pedro Police are investigating a shooting incident that occurred early Saturday morning in the San Pedrito area of the island. Officers responded to reports of gunfire around 4 and visited the Espat residence on 1st Street, where they observed multiple bullet holes on the first and second floors of the property. Brothers Logan and Mark Espat, both fishermen, were inside their residence when it was riddled with bullets. ACP Hilberto Romero, Officer Commanding Eastern Division, explained that the shooting is related to previous happenings on the island.

ACP Hilberto Romero, Regional Commander, Eastern Division: “We do not know who the suspects are for this shooting but yes we know they have rivalry they have in San Pedro with other person. We have not been able to identify.”
Reporter: Any suspicion of further retaliation ?
ACP Hilberto Romero, Regional Commander, Eastern Division: “Yes we are looking at that. We know the rivalry with them and the other group here so we have additional police personnel on the island to try and address the matter.”
The attackers reportedly jumped the fence and escaped toward the lagoon side, where they boarded a boat and disappeared. Expended shell casings were retrieved from the yard. Investigations are ongoing.
