The Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) has officially announced that nomination day for the country’s upcoming general and regional elections will be held on July 14, 2025.
The announcement follows the approval of GECOM’s work plan on Thursday by its seven-member commission. The elections are scheduled for September 1, 2025.
“In keeping with statutory provisions, political parties desirous of contesting the upcoming elections will be required to submit their respective Lists of Candidates on the 14th July, 2025 i.e., nomination day,” GECOM stated in a press release issued Friday.
Political parties planning to contest the elections must also submit applications for the allocation of symbols by June 22, for approval by the commission.
GECOM added that its Secretariat has been given the go-ahead to implement the tasks outlined in the work plan to “ensure that the elections are conducted in a free, fair, and transparent manner.”
With nomination day set, GECOM also announced that the statutory forms for submitting lists of candidates are now available on its official website.
While the date for the general election was announced by the government on May 25, President Irfaan Ali has not yet dissolved Parliament.
