Guyana replaces Jamaica as CASA Championships host

GEORGETOWN, Guyana (CMC):

IN A dramatic late-stage switch, Guyana has been confirmed the new host for the upcoming Caribbean Area Squash Association (CASA) Senior Championships, stepping in after Jamaica was forced to withdraw.

The announcement was made by Sport Minister Charles Ramson Jr on Saturday, with the international tournament now less than two weeks away.

Minister Ramson revealed the news during the National Sports Awards ceremony, framing it as a direct result of the nation’s strategic investments in sports infrastructure.

“Look at our ability to host now because of the investment that we’re making,” Minister Ramson stated.

“I would like to share the announcement that Guyana is now going to be hosting Senior CASA at the end of the month because Jamaica is unable to host. Guyana is the only suitable location to host because of the investment that we’ve made.”

The championships are scheduled to run from November 23 to 30 and are expected to attract over 130 of the region’s top squash players.

The timing creates a compelling narrative for the host nation. The Guyanese national squash team, freshly crowned as ‘Team of the Year’ at the same awards ceremony, will now have the opportunity to defend their CASA title on home turf.
