NAVI MUMBAI, India (CMC):

Both Chinelle Henry and Deandra Dottin began their 2026 Women’s Premier League (WPL) campaigns on losing notes, despite contrasting performances for their respective teams on Saturday.

Henry smashed a half-century and grabbed a wicket for the Dehi Capitals Women, but her side still went down by 50 runs to Mumbai Indians Women in their opening match of the tournament.

Mumbai’s skipper Harmanpreet Kaur struck an unbeaten 74 off just 42 balls and Nat Sciver-Brunt made 70 off 46 balls, to lead the home team to a formidable 195 for four from their 20 overs.

Nandani Sharma took 2-26, while Henry finished with 1-32 from her three overs.

Henry then returned to hit the top score of 56 off 33 balls, including five fours and three sixes, as the Capitals were bowled out for 145 in 19 overs.

Amelia Kerr (3-24) and Nicola Carey (3-37) were the main destroyers, while Sciver-Brunt took 2-29.

Earlier, Dottin had a forgettable performance as her UP Warriorz Women suffered a 10-run defeat at the hands of Gujarat Giants Women.

Led by skipper Ashleigh Gardner’s 65 off 41 balls and Anushka Sharma, who made 44, the Giants posted a mammoth 207 for four in their 20 overs.
