CARDIFF – West Indies vice-captain Chinelle Henry was stretchered off the field during a warm-up match against Australia at Sophia Gardens in Wales on Wednesday, casting a dark cloud over the team’s preparations for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup.

The 30-year-old all-rounder fell awkwardly while attempting to take a catch at long-on in the ninth over of Australia’s innings.

Georgia Voll lofted a delivery from Afy Fletcher in Henry’s direction. As Henry charged into position, she lost her footing and crashed to the turf, prompting an immediate stoppage in play.

Medical staff rushed to her aid before she was carried off on a stretcher.

The extent of Henry’s injury remains unclear. An update from the West Indies camp is expected after consultation with the team’s medical unit.

Henry, a veteran of 73 T20I matches, provides crucial balance to the side with her all-round abilities. Her absence would be a significant blow ahead of the tournament opener.

West Indies are scheduled to begin their World Cup campaign against defending champions New Zealand on Saturday in Southampton.
