ONE OF the features of the JAAA World Championships Preparation meets is the presence of a number of high school athletes, who would normally be out of season with the climax for them taking place in March and April.

One of those athletes, Muschett High School’s, Shanoya Douglas, continued her impressive season with a win and a second-place finish at Saturday’s JAAA World Championships Preparation #2 meet, held inside the National Stadium.

Douglas, the Carifta Games Under-20 champion in the 200 metres, topped her rivals in the half-lap event on Saturday, stopping the clock at 23.32 seconds — the fastest time of the meet. World Relays representative Roneisha McGregor, representing UWI Mona, was second in 23.83, while Milagros Duran of Academia Felix Sanchez finished third in 24.26.

Douglas also raced to a second-place finish in the women’s 400 metres in 53.70 seconds. National senior representative Candice McLeod, representing Uptimum Track Club, won the event in 53.08 seconds. Holmwood Technical schoolgirl Abrina Wright was third in 53.99 seconds.

There was victory for SprinTec’s Ashanti Moore in the women’s 100 metres, clocking 11.38 seconds to hold off schoolgirl Sabrina Dockery of Lacovia High, who was second in 11.45 — the same time given to McGregor of UWI Mona for third place.

Penn Relays high school female triple jump champion, Jade-Ann Dawkins of St Jago was upset by St Elizabeth Technical’s Chloe Palmer. Palmer won the event with a leap of 12.52 metres, narrowly edging Dawkins, who took second with 12.50. Edwin Allen High’s Deijanae Bruce was third with 12.32.

Veteran sprinter Tyquendo Tracy had a solid win in the 200 metres, clocking 20.79 seconds—the best time in the event. Jaughvanie Davis was second in 20.95, while Sanjay Seymore was third in 21.92.
