Hit and Run Suspect Turns Himself In

The family of Police Constable Arcenio Cus is relieved and thankful that the driver in yesterday’s hit and run has turned himself in.  The owner of a popular night club in Belize City remains in police custody at this hour after he handed himself in yesterday evening.  Love News understands that after doing an inspection of the black vehicle, investigators are confident that charges will be levied.  The brother of PC Cus, Martin Cus, told Love News that the family has no ill will against the driver.

Martin Cus, Brother: “When I heard the news and I saw it and I just said…. I mean we don’t have anything to say it’s just I mean it’s good that the person that did that he went inland walked inland identified himself. I mean we can’t do anything we just keep him in prayer and along with my dad that’s but I haven’t spoke with the other siblings but I don’t think they will have anything much to say and that’s what I shared along with my dad and my brother. And that’s what I have to say. Thank the good Lord he’s honest that he went in and reported the matter and that he is the one that did it. I mean by the grace of God he did it, we don’t have anything much to say. It would be good that if he called in and apologized to my dad especially to my dad and family. We don’t have any tensions, we don’t have any anger with him but that’s what I wanted to share.”

The 32-year-old businessman is facing a slew of charges under the Motor Vehicles and Road Traffic Act, including failure to stop and render aid; failure to report an accident; causing death by careless conduct; manslaughter by negligence; and driving without due care and attention.  PC Cus, a native of Silver Creek Village, Toledo District was the victim of the hit-and-run incident between miles 6 and 7, just after one o’clock yesterday morning. It is important to note that until the person is charged, we are legally bound to withhold the name of the individual.  Up to news-time tonight, charges had not been levied.
