Holness: Current Administration Superior to PNP in Handling Debt

6 months ago 39

Prime Minister Andrew Holness says the government’s handling of debt is superior to that of the previous People’s National Party, PNP, administration.

The prime minister was reacting to the Estimates of Expenditure for the Financial Year 2025/2026 tabled in parliament last week.

In a post to his social media pages, the prime minister says the government is spending significantly less of taxpayers money on debt interest than the PNP did during its time in government.

The government is planning to spend approximately $1.3 trillion for the upcoming 2025-2026 fiscal year.

This figure is nearly $100 billion less than the initial estimates of the expenditure tabled for the current financial year. Additionally, it’s almost $126 billion less than the third supplementary estimates tabled last month.

The prime minister, in championing the upcoming budget, credits the fiscal discipline applied by his administration for its ability to fund local development in the year ahead.
